Merle Dixon
Knows he’s bad 

I admit it, I teared up for him.

Michael is such as great actor!

Can we just look at this for a minute? Or, fuck, this entire scene? Merle fought in the war (which has fucked up many a people), and I’m sure Daryl wasn’t the only one abused by his father. But Daryl was younger, Merle was older. It was Merle’s job to care for him. But who was caring for Merle. No one. So, he resorted to acting out. Drugs. Things like that. It’s actually quite common.

Merle knows he’s done bad but I believe a part of him believes he cannot be changed. Daryl has hope. There is love and kindness in Daryl’s heart that never died out because Merle shield him (at least some) and, by doing so, got the blunt of it all. No happiness left. No kindness. Only pain and hostility. Like a dog starved and kept on a chain for his entire life. He will eventually turn feral.

I love Merle Dixon. I love him. I don’t care if he’s racist (which, he is, but he’s also a redneck from Southern Georgia who’s father was probably racist too so if you don’t blame Daryl for being kind of racist stop blaming Merle too you one-sided fangirls.) And I know he’s going to be a major antagonist in the new season. No hand. Daryl is gone, buddied up to this group who left him to die. In Merle’s eyes he’s all alone and that’s going to make him go off the deep end. And he will die and Daryl will have to be the one to kill him.

But I will cry. I will probably cry because I know it will be a loss of a man who could have been good. Who could have been fixed like Daryl. But it was too late. And that’s what sad.

If you can love Shane, I don’t know how you can’t love Merle.

(I’m not going after anyone in particular, this just had to be said. Yes.)

This is exactly how I see him. Yes, Merle was Daryl’s protector as a kid. Merle had to give up his soft side to survive in their house and he was hell on Daryl to try to help him in the best way he knew how. Because Daryl was obviously a target of their father because he was seen as “weaker” so Merle tried to thoughen him up.

I know it will happen but I will lose my shit if Daryl kills Merle. Can you imagine what that will do to him?

I’m already crying for ill fated Dixon reunion. Oh god, all of my tears. I love Merle, I think he’s hilarious. Seriously, for all the times Daryl has made me LOL with one of his smart ass comments, Merle made me laugh ten times harder and he’s had less than half the screen time. Merle is a fabulous redneck, I don’t care what anyone says. I both crave and fear his return because I know that this is exactly what’s going to happen. Merle is going to feel utterly abandoned by his own baby brother and he’s going to snap and the only one whose going to be able to deal with it will be Daryl and just think about what that’s going to do to him? I just want Daryl to have a nice family! Please, Merle! Just join the makeshift family toooooo!!

*curls into a ball and sobs*

Stop jumping to conclusions you twits, no one knows if Daryl will kill Merle, if Merle will even die for christs sake.

I don’t see how it can go any other way. Merle is very likely going to be working with the Governor in season 3, in fact Norman said in some interview or another that Merle will be his right hand guy (absolutely no pun intended). I don’t know if you read the comic, but the governor AND his lackey’s do some pretty fucked up things and a lot of it Daryl is not going to like. Especially when so-and-so happens with Michonne. If my predictions are right and Daryl is in the group that first meets the Governor, he is going to go ballistic. 

Add to that the fact his brother is helping these people? Yeah, no. 

Then we have to consider how mad Merle is going to be at the group, especially Rick, who handcuffed him, and T-Dog who dropped the key. Merle is NOT going to hold any punches when he shows back up, he is going to fuck some shit up. At first he might pretend to be fine, say ‘it’s okay, I understand! We’re all alive and that’s what matters!’ but if he does it will be so they’ll let their guard down but if you honestly believe he’s just going to let that whole getting handcuffed on the roof of a building being stormed by walkers thing go then you’re really naive. He is going to seriously fuck some shit up. 

And finally, the last ingredient that will fuck up the Dixon reunion is Daryl’s new found makeshift family. He cares about them and he cares about Rick especially. He’s not going to stand by and let Merle kill Rick, brother or no. He’s found people who slowly but surely are accepting him, that see his worth, that are putting their trust in him because they know he’s a great guy. Daryl isn’t going to want to loose that - and considering the fact that even hallucinaton!Merle was trying to tell Daryl that they aren’t really his friends, that they don’t actually like him I think it’s pretty obvious what tactic Merle is going to pull to get Daryl on his side. To sow the seeds of discourse. 

Maybe he wont die, I think the chances are highly unlikely but it’s not set in stone, obviously. But if he DOES survive, Merle is not walking away from this unscathed. I said this before but Merle just might end up loosing his other hand and then he won’t be much of a threat. He won’t be much use in the zombie apocalypse either but if Rick and or Daryl REALLY don’t want to kill him, they’ll permanently unarm him. So to speak. Oh god, pun not intended!
